What our customers say

Which sleeping bag for which season? The TOG value

The TOG value indicates how warm a sleeping bag keeps your baby: the higher the value, the warmer it is. We offer three levels. A summer sleeping bag with 0.5 TOG, such as the Summer Basic jersey sleeping bag, is for warm rooms from about 24 degrees Celsius. An all-year sleeping bag with 2.5 TOG, like the All-Year Basic sleeping bag or the prima klima jersey sleeping bag, fits in most children's bedrooms. A winter sleeping bag with 3.5 TOG is designed for cool rooms. You can see which value suits your room temperature in the TOG table and the TOG finder. Check your baby's neck to be sure: it should feel warm, but not sweaty.

Down sleeping bag for babies: thermo-nest®

For winter, the thermo-nest® down sleeping bag is our best-selling sleeping bag. It has a 3.5 TOG rating, a filling of down and feathers, and a 100% cotton lining; it is washable at 40 degrees and available in sizes 70 to 130 cm. If you prefer not to use down, choose the prima klima sleeping bag with sleeves and Thinsulate™ filling: with the sleeves removed, it has a 3.5 TOG rating.

Which sleeping bag size does my child need?

The size of the sleeping bag corresponds to its length in centimeters. As a rule of thumb, take your child's body length excluding the head and add 10 to 15 cm for leg room and growth. For newborns, there are baby sleeping bags starting from 50 and 60 cm; for babies, 70 and 90 cm; for toddlers, 110 and 130 cm. For larger children up to primary school age, we have oversized children's sleeping bags in 150, 170, and 190 cm. You can find the exact measurements in the size chart. An expandable sleeping bag fits across two sizes, for example 70 to 90 cm.

Sleeping bag with feet for children who are already walking

As soon as your child is standing and walking, a sleeping bag with feet is practical: our Hopsi has legs and feet but otherwise works like a sleeping bag. It is available in sizes 74 to 116, as a summer jersey Hopsi with 0.5 TOG and a padded version with 2.5 TOG.

Other sleeping bags: organic cotton, terry cloth, under-layer, and kicker bag

The Organic Cotton all-year sleeping bag made from organic cotton (€39.99) is designed for newborns in 60 and 70 cm. The terry cloth sleeping bag (€25.99) is single-layered, unpadded, and very absorbent, making it ideal for warm nights. The under-layer BabyNest® in 50 to 70 cm is a lightweight long-sleeved sleeping bag that fits under any of our sleeping bags in winter and is sufficient on its own in summer; it features fold-over cuffs to prevent scratching and an all-around zipper for easy diaper changes. You will also find our kicker bag in our shop.

Fabrics, care, and safety

Our sleeping bags are available in jersey, cotton, organic cotton, terry cloth, and Nicky fabric. Depending on the model, they are machine washable at 40 or 60 degrees on a delicate cycle; the specific information is on the product page. A sleeping bag is safer for babies than a duvet because it cannot slip over their heads. Odenwälder BabyNest is a family business from the Odenwald region, and our hospital sleeping bags are used in maternity wards.
